Imagine a scene like the Battersea scene except it’s Mary and Sherlock talking, and Mary’s like “you love him.” and Sherlock stays completely silent because it’s not a question and there’s nothing to say. they don’t know John’s listening on the other side. and John hears that and he doesn’t believe it because hell, it’s Sherlock, she has no idea what she’s talking about. but what he also hears is Sherlock’s silence, not correcting her, and he finds it odd because Sherlock always corrects everything. and then he remembers all the times people have assumed they were a couple and Sherlock didn’t correct them. and John doesn’t know what to do of that and he’s even more lost than before and, being the emotional mess that he is, he just wants to go away and does so not caring about remaining unnoticed anymore, so he does make a lot of noise that conducts Mary and Sherlock to know that he was there and heard them. Mary has a smirk on her face. Sherlock hates himself. Everything’s going wrong and becoming even more of a mess than before.
