A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness; but still will keep a bower quiet for us, and a sleep full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.Endymion, John Keats
The interesting thing about ‘Sherlock’ is that you start the series thinking Sherlock is the repressed one.
Then you slowly realize that John Watson is a ticking time bomb of repressed emotion and that he’s the emotionally constipated one.
Even the way he walks (when he’s not with Sherlock) is repressed. Like he’s making an effort not to seem out of place. To fit in.
John Watson is almost as socially awkward as Sherlock. The only difference is that he’s very aware of it, so he makes an effort not to be, thus placing a considerable amount of stress on his own shoulders just to fit in with other people.
With Sherlock he doesn’t need to. They balance each other out.
John needs Sherlock just as much as Sherlock needs him. Whenever he’s with Sherlock he’s more relaxed than ever. He’s happy. He doesn’t need to keep up a facade.
They’re not perfect together because they’re two hot guys who people want to see kiss.
They are perfect together because they truly do bring out the best in each other, and they are each other‘s solace.
